Perhaps only poetry and poetic tools can represent the spectacle that awaits us on a winter excursion. Pushkin wrote of this:

“The snow below the bluish skies,

Like a majestic carpet lies,

And in the light of day it shimmers.

The woods are dusky. Through the frost

The greenish fir-trees are exposed;

And under ice, a river glitters.”

Well, we’re not using poetic tools, but we’ll show you where we can meet heartwarming winter landscapes like this.

1. Megyer-hegyi tarn

This tiny mountain lake is one of the most beautiful natural wonders of the Zemplén Mountains. The lake is not a real tarn, but a man-made, more precisely the result of milling. From the 15th century until 1907, the miner’s work continued, and since then, in the excavation pit, 6.5 meters deep rainwater has accumulated in some places.

2. Lake Felsőtárkány

Felsőtárkány is a real hideaway in the embrace of Bük, with many educational trails and sights. You can recharge even if you just walk the streets of Felsőtárkány and look at the houses, the landscape, you feel the power of silence and the energy of nature. There is a baroque church, a castle ruin, a spring with a lot of water, but what puts the icing on the cake is the lake above the settlement.

3. Somló

Somló can be called the smallest wine region full of surprises. The rows of vineyards leading to the castle, the full panorama from the top of the mountain and the castle itself are stunning, especially in the snow.
